NSW schools offer special religious education and special education in ethics where available.
Special Religious Education and Special Education in Ethics at Burwood PS
A feature of the public education system in NSW is the opportunity to provide time in class for education in ethics, faith and morality from a religious or non-religious perspective at the choice of parents. At Burwood Public School, students are offered 30 minutes of Special Religious Education (SRE/Scripture) or Special Eduacation in Ethics (SEE) every week on Wednesday morning 9.00-9.30am.
Students not attending SRE or SEE are given supervised alternative meaningful activities (Non Scripture).
The following options are provided at Burwood Public School:
- Option 1: Combined Protestant Churches (K-6) *Includes Baptist, Uniting, Anglican, Presbyterian, Church or Christ, Congregational and Salvation Army*
- Option 2: Catholic (K-6)
- Option 3: Ethics (3-6)
- Option 4: Hindu (K-6)
- Option 5: Islam (K-6)
- Option 6: Baha'i (K-6)
- Option 7: Non Scripture

On enrolment parents/carers will be given the SRE and SEE participation letter to complete and return.
Parents/carers may choose to change groups at any time by notifying the school in writing by emailing burwood-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au.
